The world’s largest iceberg, A23A, is rapidly breaking apart into smaller pieces. Initially the size of Rhode Island, it has shrunk to the size of Houston and is expected to fully disintegrate by the end of November. This natural process, while spectacular, won’t raise sea levels directly, but the reduction in ice shelves contributes to rising sea levels from melting land glaciers. The new largest iceberg is D15A, nearly twice the size of the shrinking A23A. Scientists predict a potential dramatic collapse of A23A, possibly within a single day, as warmer waters weaken its structure.
